Olfactometry

A method used for determining the intensity of odours with the help of individuals with a highly-developed sense of smell and an “olfactometer”. The air to be examined is diluted progressively inside the olfactometer until a concentration is reached at which the odour is no longer perceivable (odour threshold). The necessary dilution until the point at which the odour threshold is reached is used as the yardstick for the odour intensity.
