Carbon Dioxide (CO2)

A gas which is produced by the respiration of living organims, but which, over the last few decades in particular, has been produced by the burning of fossil fuels (coal, mineral oil, natural gas). The level of CO2 in the Atmosphere has increased steeply over the last few decades. Since the start of the industrialized period, the CO2 concentration has risen from 285 ppm (parts per million parts of air) to 360 ppm.

The principle sources of CO2 Emissions are the Power Stations, domestic heating installation and smallscale consumers, Motor Vehicle traffic.
