Chlorine (Cl2)

A gas of the halogen group, which is widely used as a basic material in the manufacture of Solvents, plastic and other chemical products. Chlorine chemistry has produced a number of substances (DDT, Polychlorinated Biphenyls, Polyvinyl Chloride, Pentachlorphenol, Chlorofluorocarbons etc.), which give rise to considerable environmental pollution either themselves or in form of transformation products.
