Dump

A designated area for the ordered and controlled depositing of Waste. Modern, environmentally friendly dumps are required to be constructed in accordance with the “Multi-Barrier Concept”:

1. The site must be as indifferent as possible to percolating water. Any percolating water must be led away and dealt with in a contrrolled fashion.
2. The dump must be provided with a sealed base.
3. The only kinds of Waste to be dumped should be those whose possible adverse effect on the environment has been reduced by pre-treatment (e.g. Waste Incineration).
4. After filling, the dump must be protected by means of a surface seal against the ingress of rainwater.
5. The behaviour of the dump must be monitored over a lenghly perios and documented.
