A Heavy Metal. Lead and its compounds are toxic. The lead Emission which are particularly significant from an environmental point of view are those which find their way into the environment in Motor Vehicle Exhaust Gases (tetraethyl lead), through Waste Incineration, from lead-processing companies (e.g. the manufacturer of accumulators) and through corrosion protection agents (red lead oxide). The load on the environment is expected to be relieved significantly by the increasing use of unleaded motor fuels, and the replacement of red lead oxide by low- lead and low-chromate corrosion protection agents. |
