Heavy Metals |
Metals with a specific gravity (density) greater than 4.5 g/cm³. Some heavy metals are essential trace elements for humans, animals and plants (iron, cobalt, Nickel, manganes, zinc, copper, molybdenum), whilst others pollute the environment as radionuclides or toxic heavy metals (e.g. Cadmium, Mercury, Lead). Heavy metals enter the environment via Waste, Sewage or Waste Incineration processes, where they constitute an acute risk to living organisms, especially at higher concentrations. |
