Pyrolysis

The thermal Decomposition of carbon-containing materials (e.g. rubber, plastics, cable waste, scrap tyres) in an atmosphere which excludes oxygen. Various degassing products (e.g. aliphatic Hydrocarbons, low temperature tar and Methane) are produced during pyrolysis, with pyrolysis coke as a residue (with a high proportion of Heavy Metals). Some of the heat from the process is used to heat the installation (rotary drum), and the remaining is used mainly for electricity generation.
