Photo-oxidants

 

A group of Dangerous Substances (including Ozone, nitric acid) which is formed from Hydrocarbons, the Oxides of Nitrogen, and oxygen under the effect of short-wave solar radiation. Ozone is measured as the principal substance for the purpose of determining the concentration of photo-oxidants. The phenomenon is known as Los Angeles Smog (Photo-chemical Smog) after the place where it was first observed (in the late 1940s), and also as summer Smog). Photo-oxidants have an adverse or damage effect on the health: typical manifestations are irratations of the mucuos membrane and damage to the respiratory tract and the lungs. Photo-oxidants are also conidered to be one of the main cases of the recent instances of Forest Damage.
