Three-way Catalyzer

An apparatus for the reduction of Waste Gases intended for use in Motor Vehicles, in which the Harmful Substances Carbon Monoxide, Hydrocarbons and the Oxide of Nitrogen are converted into non-toxic substances (Carbon Dioxide, hydrogen, nitrogen and water). In order to achieve reductions of more than 90 % in Harmful Substances, it is necessary to have a uniform flow of Waste Gases, which is achieved by regulating the fuel/air mixture with the help of a Lambda Probe and an electronic control system. As a general rule, the three-way catalyzer consist of a non-combustible carrier material (e.g. ceramic), to which a thin layer of precious metal (platinium/palladium/rhodium) has been applied. The oxygen probe or Lambda Probe (ensures a constant fuel/air mixture) and the exhaust catalyzer will not tolerate leaded petrol.
