An apparatus for the reduction of Waste Gases intended for use in Motor Vehicles, in which the Harmful Substances Carbon Monoxide, Hydrocarbons and the Oxide of Nitrogen are converted into non-toxic substances (Carbon Dioxide, hydrogen, nitrogen and water). In order to achieve reductions of more than 90 % in Harmful Substances, it is necessary to have a uniform flow of Waste Gases, which is achieved by regulating the fuel/air mixture with the help of a Lambda Probe and an electronic control system. As a general rule, the three-way catalyzer consist of a non-combustible carrier material (e.g. ceramic), to which a thin layer of precious metal (platinium/palladium/rhodium) has been applied. The oxygen probe or Lambda Probe (ensures a constant fuel/air mixture) and the exhaust catalyzer will not tolerate leaded petrol. |
