Batteries contain environmentally Harmful Substances such as Mercury, manganese, Cadmium, Lead, Nickel or zink in varying concentrations. Since the majority of batteries are disposed of with the Domestic Refuse, environmentally Harmful Substances such as these can find their way into the environment through Waste Incineration or Dumps.
