Liquid or gaseous hydrogen compounds (mainly Methane and ethane derivates), in which hydrogen atoms have been replaced by Chlorine and fluorine atoms. Chlorofluorocarbons are usually designated by means of numerical codes (e.g. R11, R12, R22, R113). Chlorofluorocarbons generally find applications as refrigerants, Cleaning Agents, foaming agents for plastics and propellants. Chlorofluorocarbons do not break down in the layers of air cloth to the earth, but reach the Stratosphere after a number of years, where the play a major part in the Decomposition of the Ozone layer. |
